Lidocaine is a local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. It is a derivative of cocaine, but does not contain the hallucinogenic and addictive properties of cocaine. Lidocaine hydrochloride is a white crystalline powder, easily soluble in water, with the same toxicity as procaine, but the local anesthetic effect is strong and lasting, with good surface penetration, and can be injected or used for surface anesthesia.
